Volunteer Treasurer & Trustee

Help shape the branch’s financial future by overseeing budgets, forecasts, reserves and financial controls; ensuring legal and regulatory compliance; reviewing financial reports and year-end accounts; overseeing payroll, pensions, banking and investments; managing financial risk; supporting new initiatives; authorising payments and providing guidance to the Branch Accountant. You’ll bring strong financial experience, sound judgement, clear communication and a collaborative approach.

Samaritans' Mission is to be available 24 hours a day to provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. Experience Required

Essential: Charity or commercial finance, ideally including retail. Working knowledge of accounting principles and charity finance. Familiar with, or willing to learn, Xero or similar accounting systems. Working knowledge of VAT, payroll, pensions and Gift Aid. Desirable Good communication skills.

Training Details

Induction Training: We will give you training in/on the specific system for the role. In addition to this there will be additional training on Samaritans wide policies. Ongoing training We will provide any support needed for the role as treasurer. Support for the Volunteer The role reports to the Branch Director, who will be there to help.

Location/Travel Details

Although we have office space at our branch at 25 Torphichen Street, much of the work can be carried out remotely. Our shop is based in Nicolson Street. If you are coming into Torphichen Street, it is very accessible by bus, tram or train, as the branch is less than 5 minutes away from Haymarket Station.
