Opportunities advertised with us are accessed by thousands of potential volunteers

Resuming Activities and Services

Every volunteer involving organisation will have dealt with the impact of the pandemic on their volunteer engagement differently, depending on the roles that your volunteers undertake. Some volunteering has changed, but continued, and for other volunteering roles it has not been possible for them to continue. As the country progresses out of lockdown organisations will be starting to plan how to restart services and involve volunteers again.
We have produced an article on our VolunteerWiki that sets out guidance on how you can safely engage volunteers as lockdown restrictions ease. Read the article here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I advertise my volunteering opportunities with Volunteer Edinburgh?

It’s very simple, if you haven’t already done so you need to register your organisation. You can do this online here and before doing so, should read Our Values to make sure that you meet them and familiarise yourself with our Terms of Service.

Once registered familiarise yourself with our Minimum Standards and then simply complete our online form here to advertise your opportunities.

What happens when I complete an online opportunity advertising form?

We review your opportunity and within 24 hours (although in reality it is usually much faster) we make it “live”. Don’t worry, if we spot anything that we think is wrong or needs a bit more clarification we will come back to you before publishing it.

Where are my opportunities advertised?

Once live, your opportunities are advertised on our website. They will appear in searches by more than 60,000 visitors to our website a year, giving you an excellent reach to prospective volunteers.

We also physically print out your opportunity to include in our in-office directories so that visitors to our Leith Walk office can also see them. We have around 1000 visitors a year to our office and this remains an important part of our work and a brilliant way of getting prospective volunteers to see your adverts.

Your opportunity will automatically appear on the national website, ensuring the maximum possible reach to prospective volunteers.

Is advertising with you effective?

Yes. 44% of our local customers tell us that we are their number one volunteer recruitment tool and 66% of customers tell us that we are in their top three.

What if I want to change, pause or stop an opportunity that is advertised with you?

It is easy, just let us know by emailing or calling and we will make any changes you need. This usually happens the same day. During the coming months we hope to be able to offer customers the opportunity to directly manage their own adverts. We will be in touch with all advertisers when this becomes available.

We are a National volunteering organisation. Can we advertise with you?

Yes you can. If your volunteering opportunity is only available in Edinburgh then you can advertise with us like any local organisation. If your opportunity is available across multiple (three or more) local authority areas then you can advertise via Volunteering Zone on

We are a National volunteering organisation and use Volunteering Zone to advertise opportunities, do I also have to separately register them with you?

No. If you have advertised via Volunteering Zone and your opportunities are available on then they will automatically be advertised with us via our website and in our offices, if you have selected Edinburgh City as one of the local authorities you need volunteers for.

How will I know how effective my adverts have been?

When a prospective volunteer either notes interest in your opportunity on our website or takes away details of your opportunity from our offices we record this. We can give you report at any time on how many people have been interested in your opportunity. Of course, any prospective volunteer needs to be converted to an engaged volunteer and this will of course be done by you. It is useful to know what initial interest your adverts are getting when advertised with us.

What if I don’t want to use your online form?

If for any reason you do not wish to use our online forms or are unable to, simply call us on 0131 225 0630 and we will help.
