Queens Awards 2019
The Queen’s Awards 2019 for Voluntary Service and for Enterprise
Edinburgh is a leading social and economic hub, with; 4,600 community organisations in the City, a third of residents regularly volunteering, 260 social enterprises, an overall social economy worth £3 billion, with a diverse range of 20,000 businesses, contributing £18 billion of Gross Value Added .
With these highly impressive statistics, it is important to acknowledge that it is the volunteers, staff and directors alike who, working across all sectors, provide the bedrock for the city’s success.
It really is time for all of us to better acknowledge the contribution and impact that these key groups of people make both across our city and within our localities. We can, and should, do more and one way is to boost the volume of nominations for the annual Queen’s Awards. These awards represent the highest accolade that Her Majesty The Queen can bestow upon an organisation recognising the impact made to improve people’s lives. In the Capital, for 2018 we have three winners of the Awards.
I would therefore ask that you consider making a nomination for any of the following two schemes for 2019, which are for small and larger groups of people (rather than individuals). Please click on the link provided for further details:
- The Queens Award for Voluntary Service 2019 (submission by 24 September 2018); and/or
- The Queens Award for Enterprise 2019 (submission by 12 September 2018)
I am hoping that through greater awareness of these schemes, that more volunteers and enterprises in Edinburgh are acknowledged for their work in next year’s round of awards.
In order to assist organisations that may be interested in submitting to these schemes, my office can provide further general advice and guidance if required. Should sufficient interest be generated, I would be happy to host a suitable briefing/discussion meeting in the City Chambers. Please contact Graeme McKechnie at firstname.lastname@example.org directly in this regard.
Rt. Hon. Lord Provost of The City of Edinburgh
