Volunteer Support Worker

Getting to know and engaging with the service users.
Encouraging service users to take part in activities.
Acting as a positive role model.
Supervising service users when support workers have to leave for bathroom breaks etc.
Helping set up activities.
Helping prepare snacks and drinks.
Assist staff who may require extra support with a service user.
Help document the activities by taking photographs or videos.
Contribute to evaluations and feedback on the service.

Experience Required

Essential: Capable of the physically demanding tasks required of the role. Ability to work as part of a team. Able to communicate clearly. Enthusiastic and energetic Display a willingness to learn and get involved. Be aware of the need for confidentiality.

Training Details

We provide training at regular intervals to all staff and volunteers. This can include general autism awareness training, play training, child protection training, inductions into specific services and any training necessary to meet specific medical needs of children within each service

Flexibility & Commitment

Term Time

6.5 hours per fortnight for 3 months

Location/Travel Details

Our venue is on Baileyfield Road in Portobello. There are several bus routes which will take you nearby including the 21, 49, 26 and 5.


Volunteers are expected to keep an expense sheet, as well as all receipts, which can then be submitted monthly.
