Volunteer Stock and Online Fulfilment Assistant

You will help manage the stock for our new goods offer at the Newhailes warehouse. This may include keeping the stockroom tidy and organised, checking deliveries, pricing and then inputting items on the stock system, replenishing and allocating new stock to our Café Shops, and picking, packing and dispatching online orders. You may also help with occasional stocktakes and general administration.

About St Columba's Hospice Care

St Columba's Hospice provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care for people with progressive, far-advanced illness with from across Edinburgh and the Lothians. We also provide support for their relatives and carers. Our vision is that everyone within our community has access to excellent palliative care whoever they are, wherever they are and whenever they need it. We provide care within our bedded unit, and through Day Services, Outpatient appointments and our Community Palliative Care Team. Our Education Department provides education in palliative care for healthcare professionals, as well as carrying out research. To do all of this, we have 160 staff, and over 600 volunteers.

Experience Required

Experience in stock management, retail or distribution would be helpful. Confident in using computers. This role would suit someone who is organised, accurate, hands-on and happiest working behind the scenes. The role is physical, so you will be on your feet, lifting and moving stock and boxes.

Training Details

Hospice Retail Induction Programme. Warehouse Orientation. Team/role induction and training to include stock familiarisation, stock management on Cybertill, online fulfilment via Shopify, stock replenishment and allocation. Team meetings (if/as necessary).

Location/Travel Details

St Columba’s Newhailes Warehouse, Unit 8, Newhailes Industrial Estate, Musselburgh, EH21 6SY. Due to the location, it would be helpful if you can travel by car, or bicycle if local to Newhailes. Free parking is available on site.

Many Service Users face barriers to traveling independently due to factors such as limited mobility, social anxiety, or financial constraints. In addition to transportation, our drivers often provide a supportive presence by listening or helping individuals reflect on information shared during appointments.	The role of the Activity Buddy is to provide practical support and reduce isolation. The people we work with can find it hard to attend appointments and leisure activities due to poor physical/mental health, limited mobility, social anxiety or literacy issues. When illness, mobility, or side-effects of medication make housework or going out difficult, we offer support to make the home environment more comfortable. Volunteers play a vital part in improving service users’ physical health, mental well-being and quality of life through supportive relationships, community connection, creating pathways for personal growth and collaborative goal setting.	Parents of babies who have received care in hospital from the neonatal team can experience perinatal mental health issues and feelings of isolation.A befriender can provide emotional support to help build positive relationships between parents and their baby and improve parents’ mental health. Accessing activities in the community, going for a walk, or talking over a cuppa are some of the ways in which a Befriender can make a real difference for parents and their babies.	The Open Door Edinburgh provides support to older people, those living with dementia, poor health or mobility and those who care for them.To provide safe transport for vulnerable older people, as part of the day services staff team and drive The Open Door’s vehicle as required.
