Volunteer Shopper (Shopping Friend)

Paired with an older person to collect their shopping list, do their grocery shopping once a week & delivering it to them. Support creating a shopping list, agree times & dates for delivery & help put shopping away. Pay for the shopping, then claim reimbursement from the Connects team. Report back to Food Train Connects team & complete documentation after each shop. Report any matters of concern to Food Train. Inform Food Train Staff of any incidents & maintain confidentiality.

About Food Train Connects

Helping older people across Scotland to eat well, age well and live well and maintain their independence in their own home as long as they wish. Food Train offers various services to support this aim, the main one being a grocery shopping service where volunteers carry out grocery shopping and delivery.

Experience Required

No formal education required. Knowledge of older people's needs from life experiences or training is desirable. Friendly, sociable, patient & caring. Good phone manner & willing to use own phone/device to submit receipts & complete online form Responsive, flexible, efficient. Good verbal communication.

Training Details

Excellent support and training is provided to all volunteers. Induction training, role specific training and ongoing training plus support from a named member of staff. Full support for youth volunteering awards.

Location/Travel Details

We currently have older members waiting to be matched in the following areas: EH3 7PY, EH11 3DE, EH12 8XX, EH12 7TE Private transport or access to suitable public transport required for doing grocery shopping and delivering to members home.


If shopping trip has to be made outside own regular shopping, travel expenses can be paid up to a maximum of 10 miles at 45p per mile. We provide an online link & app to submit expenses and reimburse via BACS.
