Volunteer Digital Advocacy Worker

Would you like to join an established team of volunteers in delivery advocacy in our new digital advocacy service? Join our award-winning volunteer advocacy service to assist people in engaging with their healthcare providers and attend digital appointments. This volunteer role involves supporting people who have been offered online appointments with their NHS healthcare providers on the “NearMe” platform. You will be assisting those who require assistance in this process.

About AdvoCard

AdvoCard is a user-led, independent advocacy organisation. Our services are primarily for people with experience of mental ill-health and/or Problematic Substance Use in Edinburgh. We support people to participate more effectively in decisions that affect all aspects of their lives

Experience Required

Essential: Reliability, enthusiasm, empathy and a willingness to learn. Desirable: Good communication skills. Basic to good digital skills. An understanding of mental health and recovery services. An interest in upholding people's rights. A knowledge of/interest in advocacy. Ability to work independently.

Training Details

All volunteers will attend our in-person training programme, which covers: - learning about AdvoCard, our aims and ethos, equality & diversity; principles of advocacy, group work and PANEL principles (human rights in advocacy). All volunteers also have access to recognised social care qualifications through our partnership with the Skills Network.

Flexibility & Commitment


We request a minimum of 1 hour a week, weekly.

Location/Travel Details

We deliver advocacy mainly from our new offices at 4 Duncan Place, EH6 8HW. (Lothian Buses – 1, 7, 12, 14, 16, 21, 25, 35 and 49 stop nearby) We see people face to face here, as well as delivering telephone and video advocacy.


The Volunteer Coordinator will manage expenses. You can claim for any reasonable expenses incurred through your volunteering.
