Bookseller

Full training will be given so no previous experience of retail or the book trade is required, but we are looking for people who are passionate about books and committed to Amnesty International’s work and principles. You should be able to volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours per week, for a minimum of 3 months. Main responsibilities include: selling books; answering customer enquiries about stock and Amnesty International; Till work; cash balancing; stock management; display and presentation

About Amnesty International Scotland

To support the human rights work of Amnesty International by displays, sale of Amnesty materials and information; and by raising funds by selling Amnesty merchandise.

Experience Required

Essential skills: • Customer focus • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team • Good communication skills • Good command of English (speaking, reading, writing) • Interest in books • Commitment to equal opportunities • Commitment to Amnesty’s work.

Training Details

Volunteers will be invited to an induction shift lasting 4 hours. further training will be given on an ongoing basis for the volunteers' trial period (i.e. the first three months).

Location/Travel Details

Amnesty Bookshop, 12 Roseneath Street, Edinburgh EH9 1JH. The shop is located in Marchmont, near the Meadows and is on the no. 41 Lothians Buses route.

Expenses

Volunteers can claim up to a maximum of £8 towards travel costs per full day of volunteering. Volunteers who volunteer for a full day are also entitled to a reasonable lunch expenses claim (at the Team Leader's discretion).
