Sunday Boat Trip Tow Path Team Member

Tow-Path Team volunteers support all aspects of our Summer Sunday afternoon boat rides from Harrison Park on the Union Canal aboard our small boat the Kingfisher – weekly sessions run from 1pm through to 5.30 each week.
Tasks include:
Preparing the boat.
Dealing with customers.
Handing out information.
Handling customer fares.
Supporting colleagues.
Helping to clear away at the end of the session.

About Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust (FCCT)

Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust (FCCT) supports and encourages communities to engage positively with the canal, to promote its heritage, environment and amenity, with a view to encouraging more local people to use the canal to their benefit. We have been operating since 2004 working with canal-side communities near the Union Canal.

Experience Required

Training Details

New volunteers will go through a simple induction, learn a little of the organisation and the specific requirements of this volunteering role. Training includes the tasks of preparing the Kingfisher for an afternoon of canal activity and learning to use a contactless payment method. Training is informal and mostly done 'on the job' with colleagues.

Location/Travel Details

The volunteering will take place at Harrison Park Edinburgh each Sunday afternoon - the park is 5 minutes walk from Slateford Road and can easily be accessed by public transport - you can walk or cycle along the tow path from the Edinburgh Quay or Meggetland directions . There is local street parking and a small car park for those arriving by car.
