NHS Alcohol Step Down Unit Befriender

This role is to support our NHS Lothian Aftercare Coordinator, who gets referrals from an NHS step-down unit for men and women affected by ARBD (alcohol related brain damage). This affects people in varying ways. People can stay in the unit for several months after they detox in a hospital setting. It literally is the place where people stay and recover after stepping ‘down’ or out of hospital.

About Rowan Alba

Rowan Alba Limited is a charity set up to work with people who are at risk of becoming homeless. We believe that all individuals have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, and offer support in a person centred way, with the individual actively involved in planning their care. We work with older homeless men and women in our supported accommodation and individuals in the community who are having difficulty sustaining their current accommodation. Many of our service users would benefit from more social contact and just having someone to talk to could make a big difference to them.

Experience Required

What people have mainly asked for over the years is to have someone just to listen to them and chat, maybe laugh a little, share an interest or too. But mostly just listen and not try to fix them. If that is you, please apply!
