“We are Occupational Therapist’s within a medium secure and forensic community mental health team. We aim to work in partnership with a range of services to develop opportunities for individuals we work with. Our service has developed strong links with the Volunteer Centre, and working in partnership, we have developed volunteering opportunities for patients within the hospital. The development of volunteering opportunities within the hospital grounds has provided the opportunity for patients to start volunteering within the first few stages of passes out with the medium secure setting, allowing community volunteering to be explored as freedoms increase. This has continued when individuals are discharged and resettle within the community. We have a long-standing successful partnership with Volunteer Edinburgh. We support people to develop life skills in applying for placements including planning around how they manage their own personal sensitive information and how they share this with placements. Hospital and community volunteering opportunities have proved to be pivotal within recovery journey of our clients.”
