About Equality and Rights Network (EaRN)

The Equality and Rights Network (EaRN) is dedicated to enabling individuals, groups, organisations and communities of interest to work in partnership with public services across Edinburgh to: 1. advance equality 2. promote human rights 3. tackle inequality and poverty. EaRN Members have opportunities to be engaged in and consulted on developments and reviews in services, policies and practices across the themes of poverty, inequality, human rights, caring and groups protected under the Equality Act 2010: age, disability, gender re-assignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation. About Opportunity

Champion the interests of one or more protected group; Share their own experiences of marginalisation, discrimination and inequalities where appropriate; Listen to and share other people’s experience of marginalisation, discrimination and inequalities; Communicate with public agencies on equalities and rights, and poverty and inequality issues; Communicate the changes that those affected want and need; Provide a link between the public agencies, identified protected group(s), EaRN member organisations and the EaRN Board; Embrace an intersectional approach; Champion equalities and rights for all

Skills & Experience

Volunteer Equalities Ambassadors don’t need experience in the role as full training will be provided. More important is enthusiasm about equalities and rights and a willingness to learn. Each Ambassador will bring their own strengths, skills and life experience to the role, but all will be expected to be: Aware of equalities and rights issues; Open minded and non-judgemental; Willing to listen and learn; Comfortable communicating on behalf of others; Prepared to accurately report back on communications

Travel Details

Mainly at our offices at Volunteer Edinburgh (222 Leith Walk, EH6 5EQ), with occasional visits to other locations and some work can be done at home.

Selection Procedures:
